12. PUBLIC WEATHER SERVICES :
This is one of the most important challenges facing National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) .
IRIMO is investigating the best ways to establish close relationship with the public through mass media . This
could be accomplished by providing appropriate cultural basis among policy makers and users in community to
encourage the public to use meteorological data in their daily activities.
IRIMO has initiated some programmes to enhance the visibility of meteorology :
a) Implementation a weather-dial telephone service (number 111) in Capital and all provinces to provide the users
with meteorological data by an automatic system.
b) Installation of digital weather monitoring boards in crowded places such as airport terminals , railway stations
and coach bus terminals, market places and downtown areas. The data on the boards are updated every three hours.
c) Establishment of Bulletin Board System (BBS) which is accessible through telephone links or PC Modem connection.
d) Placement of a multi-media homepage on the Website of IRIMO and providing static and dynamical meteorological
information.
e) Presentation of weather forecast on six TV channels and radio stations all over the country round the clock.
f) Provision of large number of publications and bulletins on agricultural operations to make them more cost effective
according to the agrometeorological data.
g) Issuance of Nivar Periodical Bulletins which presents scientific papers for meteorological community, university
students and professors.
h) Contribution to the publication or translation of latest scientific books and papers on meteorology
